Arne Slot Asserts He Is Secure and Retains Liverpool's Backing Following PSV Eindhoven Humiliation
The Liverpool head coach conceded that it's understandable for concerns to be raised about his future after another convincing loss versus PSV Eindhoven.
Liverpool endured their 9th defeat in 12 matches, representing the team's worst streak after being demoted in the 1953-54 season.
They were taken apart by the Eredivisie title holders on a difficult evening at their home ground.
“I'm confident, things are alright, I've received plenty of backing from management,” Slot remarked.
“It's important to reverse this trend and secure a win naturally but if you are working as a coach and underperforming then it's expected that questions are asked.”
He noted, “I accept my position. It is not the first time I’ve been in a difficult position but it's necessary that we improved our results.”
Discussions with The Board
When asked to expand on his conversations with the club's leadership, Slot revealed:
“We communicate frequently. They are supportive for the squad and to me and those talks happen but they aren't calling me every single minute each day to say they back me.”
He further stated, “During our regular discussions I sense the confidence. However I haven’t spoken to them after this game yet so let’s see.”
Recurring Failings and Player Reaction
The manager expressed regret over known shortcomings from his squad in their European loss, namely poor finishing and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, player Jones was blunter in his assessment of the current crisis.
“I haven't got the solutions. Truthfully, I don’t. I'm telling that to all,” Jones remarked.
“It’s just unacceptable. I don’t even need to wait to reflect. I'm beyond feeling anger internally. I've reached the stage currently where I simply lack the words.”
He added, “It's difficult because I play for the club I love. I'm a supporter, and I’ve seen Liverpool since I was young.”
“In recent memory, I've not seen a Liverpool team going through a period such as this with performances so bad.”
Jones finished, “But we still have the crest on our chest. And until it is gone, we’re always going to battle.”
“Our aim is to bring this squad return to where it needs to be, demonstrate to all again what this club is about and the reason it's called the best team in the world.”
“However currently, we’re in the shit and we have to turn it around.”
