From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, fresh DM Brennan Lee Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with rich lore, a wide array of personalities, and a gripping narrative including divine entities, demons, and malevolent powers increasing in influence within the city.
Heads-up: Spoilers for the latest installment of this adventure lie ahead.
The Soldiers Table Revealed
The third episode finished on a huge suspense moment and revealed the initial group of heroes who will branch out from the main group to begin their separate journey, separate from the remaining groups.
The Soldiers table includes Teor Pridesire (portrayed by the voice actor), the nimble rogue (Laura), the fierce warrior (Whitney Moore), the cleric (the player), and the mysterious adventurer (the actor).
Dividing the Cast
Given a large ensemble, it was obvious from the outset that having everyone at one table would be unworkable.
This explains, the initial installments of this story serve as an Introduction, intertwining the personal journeys before dividing into three separate parties: Fighters, Strategists, and Seekers.
What Defines the Soldiers Table
As described by the DM, the Soldiers table is for adventurers who are drawn to a classically intense fight-heavy story mode where diplomatic options are scarce.
Initially, figures such as the hesitant healer Wicander might appear out of place, but the developments of episode 3 demonstrate why these particular heroes are ideally matched for the Soldiers table.
Motivations for Departure
First, the team knows exactly where to head next after a brutal initial meeting with The Crow Keepers.
A former ally of Thjazi Fang—whose death kicked off the narrative’s action—exploited The Crow Keepers for his personal gain, invading Thjazi’s hideout, attacking Thimble, and swiping all the enchanted items to dispose of.
The antagonist then cleared his liabilities and escaped to a fortified location in the remote area, north of the city, with Cyd close behind.
Individual Reasons
Secondly, each member has a specific drive to leave the city Dol-Makjar:
- The agile hero, as the companion and closest confidant, seeks revenge.
- The adventurer has experience in the northern area and advises that it is a hostile environment.
- The strong character and Wicander, having defied his house’s orders to execute the target and instead saved him, have no other options.
- However, their reputation as key figures in the influential clan could help the party access places they typically wouldn’t be able to.
- Moreover, The grateful character swore a eternal obligation to Wicander for his salvation and will now go with him anywhere.
Wanted and Hunted
Finally, all of them are hunted by the authorities that govern the setting for a variety of reasons, making lingering locally dangerous:
- The rogue and The hero are known criminals.
- The strong figure and Wicander turned against the powerful family and the army of fiends they are aligned with.
- The target is targeted for elimination by House Halovar.
This leaves them no alternative but to travel to the northern region in quest for Casimir.
Future Episodes
From the latest episode’s Cooldown, we learn that the Soldiers table will not appear the following episode, leaving the remaining eight participants to assemble the Questers and Schemers parties.
Fans can look forward to discovering which characters will be assigned to which table in the story’s last Overture episode, available to watch on next week.
