Iran Claims Assault on US Base in the Kingdom of Bahrain, During Widespread Military Operations.
Iranian forces say they have struck a US naval base in Manama, as Iran launched strikes throughout the Middle East in retaliation for a significant and continuing offensive targeting the nation by the US and Israel.
Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an vicinity in the area of the command center of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Manama, Bahrain. The extent of any impact is unclear and the US has not commented.
Airspace Engagements
In other parts of the Middle East, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar and Kuwait - each hosting American military installations - said they have intercepted incoming projectiles in their territorial skies.
In Doha, Qatar's defence ministry announced it had successfully engaged a number of projectiles seemingly aimed at the al-Udeid air base, the biggest US military installation in the region.
IRGC Statement
Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) stated it was attacking US bases and assets as part of military campaign "Truthful Promise 4", in response for the strikes on the Islamic Republic initiated by the US and Israel on Saturday morning.
That US-Israeli operation - executed at around 06:15 GMT - has so far focused on locations associated with the Tehran's leadership, with US President Donald Trump urging the people of Iran to rise up against the government.
Regional Fallout
In the State of Israel, air raid sirens sounded nationwide after the Israel Defense Forces reported it had identified an incoming Iranian missile barrage.
The Ministry of Defence of the United Arab Emirates stated that the nation has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"Emirati air defenses engaged the missiles with great effectiveness and successfully intercepted a several projectiles," the statement continued.
The statement noted missile fragments landed in a populated district in the capital, causing some property damage and the death of one civilian.
The United States Air Force is stationed at the Al Dhafra base, south of Abu Dhabi, along with the UAE Air Force.
