Jujutsu Kaisen: The Execution Film Seeks to Address the Anime's Most Significant Controversy
JuJutsu Kaisen: Execution is not entirely an original feature. Rather, the recent movie from the Jujutsu Kaisen fantasy saga serves as a collection of the anime's second season merged with the first two episodes of its upcoming season, which kicks off the Culling Games narrative from the source material. This makes Execution, which just got a new trailer, the earliest way to watch the start of the upcoming season ahead of its premiere in early 2026. The movie premieres in Japan on Nov. 7, and in the United States and Canada on December 5.
The Culling Games Storyline
In the Culling Games plot, Top-tier jujutsu user Yuta Okkotsu finally joins the television series and is tasked by jujutsu higher-ups to execute his fellow student Yuji Itadori. Their highly anticipated battle unfolds for the initial time on the silver screen, and if the animation team at the studio have something as special as installments 40 and 41 prepared for audiences this holiday season, JuJutsu Kaisen: Execution may turn out to be the present that everyone has hoped for.
The Thunderclap Debate
"Thunderclap episodes" from season two is widely regarded as a top-tier scene in anime history, notwithstanding the significant debate in last year when the series first premiered. It was reported that the creators were facing crunch conditions to the extent, and the released version that was shown at the time was unfinished and allegedly not what the artists initially intended.
The Epic Battle
The scene features a long-awaited battle between two strong jujutsu users, Sukuna and Mahoraga. It features innovative art style, superb cinematography, and thrilling combat. A later Blu-ray release gave the animators a chance to add additional scenes to flesh out the battle. So it seemed possible Execution could improve the battle even more. However, viewing the recent teaser, it's hard to tell if that fight has undergone further polishing. It'd be a letdown if it didn't, because a scene of that magnitude has to be watched on the biggest screen with the best presentation possible.
Season Two Success
The sophomore season of JuJutsu Kaisen elevated the franchise to become the top anime of the year, and when episodes 40 and 41 were premiered one after another, it was the focus of attention for multiple weeks in the animation fandom. Fans had heard of the issues behind the scenes, which made them admire what they witnessed even more. People anxiously checked to see if the disc version, made available on March 18, would feature extra content to the sequence or to see if it was polished at all, and were thrilled to see precisely that, alongside color corrections, smoother movement, and different color grading.
The Film's Potential
But the Blu-ray can only refine what has already been presented in the original airing, whereas the movie has the potential to do the sequence justice with further changes and new animations entirely.
A Crowning Achievement
Currently, these two episodes act as the magnum opus of JuJutsu Kaisen, and should be treated as such by Mappa, notably because of the issues they encountered at the time. It's drawn the focus of viewers all over the world, and the Culling Games storyline is one of the most anticipated anime arcs of the coming year. If the production company wants to begin the year strongly, revisit the series' best moment once again in cinemas with the ultimate presentation we've experienced so far.
