The 'Breaking Bad' Creator Reveals He Has an Idea of How His Sci-Fi Series Will Conclude... For Now.

The creative mastermind never anticipated that his new science-fiction series would emerge as a massive hit. “I am so grateful to the audience,” he states. “It was unexpected the show being as talked about as it is, and it makes me overjoyed.”

Now that Season 1 of the popular series reaching its finale—and Season 2 already in development—the writers' room opened up about the fan response and whether it will influence the narrative path of Pluribus.

Regarding the Tremendous Viewer Reception

Anyone might to get swayed by the widespread acclaim and online debates regarding Pluribus. Gilligan, however, is doing his best to avoid both.

“It's like being an endless supply of something incredibly sweet and being tickled to death,” he says. “It's wonderful, but I learn of it anecdotally, and that's by design. Not once have I looked myself up on the internet, nor do I ever intend to. Not because I don't care. It's a bottomless pit I know I would disappear down and then I'd be never leaving the house from Home Depot and I'd never leave my living room.”

Despite trying to stay away, there’s it's impossible to ignore the immensely favorable response to the series. The best he and his team can do is to accept it graciously and try not to let it dictate the story of the show.

“We make no attempt to tailor anything,” says writer and executive producer Alison Tatlock. “The narrative we craft is not changed by online forums.”

“It's wiser to keep our noses to the grindstone,” Gilligan concludes.

A Pressing Query: Will Vince Gilligan Know the Finale of Pluribus?

So if Gilligan and his team aren’t being guided by audience theories, does it imply they have mapped out how Pluribus will finally conclude? Essentially yes… sort of.

“We've developed some compelling concepts about the ultimate destination,” Gilligan says. “yet we stand ready to abandon a decent plan for a more brilliant plan. That philosophy has guided us in well on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We throw stuff out when we conceive of something superior and I imagine we will be doing that.”

On the other hand, if all else fails, executive producer Gordon Smith has a humorous idea to serve as a last resort.

“I constantly suggest that everything takes place within a snow globe, and that we'll zoom out in the finale and we're in there,” Smith quips, “but nobody's taking me up on that.”

Alternatively, why not reference the iconic TV endings?

“I want Carol to wake up in bed with Bob Newhart there,” Gilligan adds, smiling.

Pluribus is currently available on the streaming service.
