The Red Devils Set to Sign Germany Forward Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich

Manchester United are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific German striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from Bayern Munich.

A Major Signing for the WSL Side

The forward, with six months remaining on her contract, is known as a prolific goalscorer for her club and the national team. She has scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for her country. Her arrival is viewed as a marquee coup for the Women’s Super League side.

Her exit from Bayern was expected after she was seen fighting back tears while thanking the German club’s fans following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

It was reported in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its top forwards. Per multiple sources, all the paperwork for the transfer have now been completed.

Reliable Goalscoring to Boost United's Attack

The 28-year-old’s arrival is expected to provide a significant boost to the team's attacking options. She has been highly reliable in front of goal in the Bundesliga.

  • Over seven straight seasons, up to and including the last term, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Building Momentum at Carrington

The acquisition of Schüller’s signature comes at a time when the club seem to be building positive momentum.

Their recent performances feature qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the winter break has brought further business:

  1. The acquisition of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since arriving in 2023.

Regarding Miyazawa’s extension, a senior figure stated: “She has become a vital part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability allows her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”

The new defender, having arrived from a side from the NWSL, added: “You can sense how much the club have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
