Toronto Blue Jays Earn World Series Matchup Versus defending champion Dodgers
George Springer contributed to the Houston Astros claiming the championship in 2017.
Canada's MLB team reached their maiden Fall Classic following the 1993 season by overcoming the Mariners in the seventh Game 7 of the AL Championship Series.
Behind three runs to one, outfielder George Springer delivered a three-run homer in the seventh, guiding the only Canadian franchise in Major League Baseball to a 4-3 series triumph in the best-of-seven series. Awaiting them are the defending champions, holders of the current crown, in the anticipated championship.
"I'm just so happy for our team, the city, our country," Springer stated, a star of the Astros team that claimed the 2017 title. "This is such an unbelievable moment."
The veteran has now connected for twenty-three post-season home runs, placing him third on the list trailing only Manny Ramirez (twenty-nine) and Jose Altuve (twenty-seven).
"There's probably not another person on planet Earth that I want up in that spot besides George Springer with his post-season brilliance," said Blue Jays manager John Schneider.
Seattle, despite leading the series two games to none and three games to two, continue to be the only MLB franchise that has never reached in a World Series.
Wilson stated "there's no question that it's going to sting" after his side's defeat at Rogers Centre, but commended their performance this season.
"This is a unique group. Sadly that we finished on the losing end of the series," he continued.
Toronto's team claimed the World Series on their two prior appearances in the early 90s, and will host the Los Angeles in the first game on Friday.
