Trump Welcomes Loved Ones of Shot Guard Members to the Presidential Residence
Former President Donald Trump announced on the weekend that he has asked the relatives of a National Guard member tragically killed last week to attend the White House.
He noted that he spoke to her family and they were “heartbroken”.
Details on the Tragic Event
Soldier Beckstrom, twenty years old, was lost her life in a attack on Wednesday in Washington DC.
Her fellow service member, Staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, 24, continues receiving treatment in serious condition.
Memorials across the state have been held in their memory.
Presidential Call
The president said he’s talked about a White House visit for the parents of both soldiers of the West Virginia National Guard.
“I said: ‘When you’re ready, because that’s a tough thing, visit the White House. We’re going to honor her,” Trump told reporters. “And in the same way with him, no matter the outcome.”
Public Reaction
Attendees assembled over the past few days at a local school in West Virginia to pay respects to Sarah.
Both they had been serving with the West Virginia National Guard as part of Trump’s federal initiative to support public safety in Washington DC.
Honoring Beckstrom
“She was the type of pupil that teachers desired. She carried herself with inner fortitude, a warm expression and a positive energy that encouraged people around her,” the principal, the head of her previous school, informed the media. “She was caring, compassionate and always willing to help others.”
Memorial details for Sarah are still being arranged.
Judicial Steps and Government Changes
Officials have accused a 29-year-old Afghan national with a charge of homicide and two counts of violent assault while armed.
The tragedy prompted the administration to suspend asylum applications and cease providing entry permits to owners of travel documents.
Status of Wolfe
The airman, a native of the city, began his service in 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of Musselman high school, per the AP.
He continues to receive treatment and is “battling to survive”, West Virginia governor Patrick Morrisey stated on a news program.
The state’s top lawyer Pam Bondi informed a news show that she aimed to meet with his relatives.
Impact of Sarah Beckstrom
Beckstrom, from her hometown, completed her education from her high school in June 2023 and enlisted soon after, working as a military police officer with distinction, as stated by the state guard.
“She had a lot of compassion and she certainly had courage,” Morrisey addressed the gathering at the memorial. “Though her time ended too soon, she has left a mark that’s going to last forever.”
